Quest: |
To understand the responsibility the individual has to create their world as they see it without trampling on the rights of their neighbor who may see a different world. |
Why Quest: |
I am a liberal non-Christian, brought up in a conservative Christian household. I've seen the contrasts between different ways of believing and how they can collide and I've wondered who is right when everyone thinks they are right. For me to go forward in the big issues of life I need to find a way to resolve conflict that respects all sides. |

During a thunderstorm, my grandfather tried to explain to me what lightening bolts were. I immediately imagined and saw a scary, dark machine, like a monster, floating inside the clouds. |
Best memory: |
The performance in 1991 singing with my band at the Rex nightclub. Being on stage, singing, I was one with my life and myself. I achieved a singularity at that moment that I hadn’t ever before through singing. I knew at that point that I had found my true love in life. |
First traumatic event: |
At five years old, we moved into a new house. As the others got ready to go on the last trip to the old house, I wasn’t allowed to go because it was too late. I had been part of the moving crew all day and didn’t want to be left out now. My mother said I couldn’t go because I hadn’t finished my milkshake. Standing on the sidewalk, we watched the others get into the truck. I screamed in frustration and tried to throw the chocolate milkshake out into the street. The cup went into the street, but the milkshake flew up in the air and landed all over me. |
