When I was eight years old, I was throwing a bayonet at a piece of plywood, trying to get it to stick. Suddenly, the bayonet bounced back at my face. I threw my right hand up to shield my eyes and grabbed the blade. Unfortunately, the bayonet sliced my thumb to the bone and cut it half off. We didn't have a phone and my mother had to walk over a mile to a neighbor to call for help. |
